Email subscriber consent for GDPR compliance will be easier

Email subscriber consent for GDPR compliance will be easier

One thing is for sure, we will be flooded with GDPR updates this week, as GDPR comes into effect on Friday (25 May 2018). After months of speculation and advice on what we need to do to continue sending emails to our hard earned, treasured email subscriber lists, the email marketing service providers are finally launching new GDPR compliant consent forms for their users. We are delighted to announce that FactorEmail is rolling out new features designed to help you in your privacy efforts, so that email subscriber consent for GDPR compliance will be easier.

Email subscriber consent

Subscribe pages and preference centers

FactorEmail clients will be able to ask for consent right from their subscribe page. You will also be able to link to your privacy and cookie policies if you have them, directly from the form. Existing subscribers will be able to change their own consent settings in their preference centre.

Consent to track

Subscribers can optionally provide consent for their email opens and clicks to be tracked.  Your subscribers should be encouraged to allow tracking so that they receive more personalised content based on the things they have previously opened and clicked on.

You can enable this option on subscribe pages and preference centres, and include consent to track responses when importing subscribers from a file or via the API.

When someone subscribes to your list, but does not give their consent to be tracked, they will still receive your emails, but will not be represented in:

  • Reports featuring opens and clicks, including insights.
  • Segments that rely on campaign activity or journey activity.
  • Journey conditions that rely on campaign activity or journey activity.
  • Behavioral segments that rely on “Email message click” or “Email message open”.

If you don’t include a consent to track checkbox on a subscribe page and someone signs up, or you don’t include a consent to track value when importing subscribers from a file or via the API, it’s assumed those subscribers have given tracking consent.
